Fit and Proper Pathway Overview
Step 01
DOFA – Date of First Appointment
The Date of First Appointment (DOFA) sets the clock for Fit and Proper compliance. It determines which FSCA timelines and regulatory deadlines apply to the representative.
Step 02
Product-Specific Training
Representatives must complete product-specific training relevant to their role to understand features, risks, and benefits before rendering services.
Step 03
Class of Business (COB) Training
COB training builds foundational technical and regulatory knowledge for specific business classes, supporting appropriate advice and compliant conduct.
Step 04
RE5 Regulatory Examination
The RE5 must be passed within applicable timeframes. It tests understanding of FAIS and key duties within the required regulatory framework.
Step 05
FAIS NQF Qualification
Obtaining an appropriate FAIS-recognised NQF qualification is essential to underpin technical competence and ensure long-term compliance.
Step 06
CPD Maintenance
Ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is required to stay current with regulatory changes and maintain best practices.
