How to Get Started with Your Fit & Proper Journey

Whether you’re a first-time representative or an experienced FAIS professional, your compliance timeline always starts with your DOFA (Date of First Appointment). Use this quick guide to understand the key FSCA steps.

1. Confirm Your DOFA Date
2. Check Your Regulatory Exam (RE)

All FSCA timelines start from your Date of First Appointment (DOFA). Your deadlines for exams, COB, qualifications and CPD depend on this date, so we always begin by confirming it from your FSCA and employer records.

Confirm whether RE5 (Representative) or RE1 (Key Individual) applies to your role. We map your FSCA timeframe to write and pass the exam based on your DOFA and current status, and help you plan the next available exam window.

3. Align Your Class of Business (COB)
4. Confirm Your NQF / Recognised Qualification

Your COB must match the product categories you actually give advice on or provide intermediary services for. We help you identify the right COB areas and ensure they are completed within the FSCA‑prescribed timelines for your DOFA.

You may need a full recognised qualification or specific NQF credits depending on your role and product categories. We review any prior learning and transitional arrangements to confirm what still needs to be completed – and by when.

5. Plan Your CPD (Continuous Professional Development)
6. Set Up Ongoing Compliance & Tracking

Once Fit & Proper is met, CPD becomes an annual obligation. We help you understand your CPD hours based on your role profile and keep track of what must be completed each cycle so there are no surprises.

Compliance is not a once‑off event. We help you set up practical tracking, reminders and reporting aligned with FSCA requirements and your employer’s approval process, so your record stays current and defensible.

This guidance is always subject to FSCA Fit & Proper rules, your official DOFA records and your employer’s approval. Fit and Compliant Consulting coordinates and supports your journey.
